Description Public policy can effect change in society at global, national and local levels. This subject examines public policy and the role of research in its development. Students will explore, analyse and understand the link between research and public policy, will receive guest lectures from experts in public policy development, and have the opportunity to produce a peer-reviewed public policy paper or article.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  1. Analyse public policy in local, national and global contexts
  2. Recognise and appraise the sources of existing public policies, their purpose and the processes used in their development.
  3. Evaluate how policies can be designed to support basic principles of social justice.
  4. Examine the contribution of a number of alternative approaches to the identification of issues, research methods, implementation and analyses of public policy.
  5. Prepare an outline of public policy journal article or draft of public policy general audience article addressing a topic relevant to the student�fs research area.
  6. Reflect on own performance and identify own development needs.
