The Masters of Medicine (Pathology) program by coursework is offered to local and international medical graduates who are undertaking specialist training in Anatomical Pathology. It is a 2 year program with online learning modules covering both surgical pathology and cytopathology, and is aimed to endow the candidates with the necessary level of diagnostic knowledge which will aid in their successful completion of specialist training in Pathology. Recently qualified pathologists may also find the program useful to consolidate their knowledge and diagnostic skills. All the assessments are online. There is 2 weeks of a non-compulsory conference held every year at the university. Students are urged to attend however the entire content of this conference is available to all students online.

Admission

Applicants must have

Completed Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent Australian or overseas degree in Medicine and current employment in a supervised training position in Anatomical Pathology as approved by The Royal College of Pathologist of Australasia (RCPA) or equivalent overseas college. The student must remain in such employment for the 2 year duration of this program.

Or

For applicants who are qualified pathologists, proof of fellowship with Royal College of Pathologist of Australasia (RCPA) or international equivalent and registration with AHPRA or other appropriate regulatory body.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.

For off-shore international students, IELTS 6.5 overall or equivalent is also required.

Work Integrated Learning

Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline.  This program includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

It will be required that a candidate is currently in a supervised specialist training in Pathology, and hence be working clinically in a hospital/laboratory setting. In order to be enrolled in the program it is a requirement to have full-time employment in the cognate professional area and as such students will be engaged in cognate informal learning at their workplace. This workplace based learning will be assessed through case studies based on cases that the candidate encounters during their employment.
