The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills. The program provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.

Early Exit

Students may exit this program on completion of 80 credit points with a 2827 Diploma in Laws (exit only)

Work Integrated Learning

Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline.  This program includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

There is an optional work component available in this program.  Please contact the Program Advisor listed above for information.

Admission

This program is designed for graduates who have completed the requirements of a tertiary qualification at bachelor’s level from a recognised university.

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas may be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) or directly through the Western Portal. Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. International students currently completing an Australian Year 12 in or outside Australia, an International Baccalaureate in Australia or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level 3 must apply via UAC International.

Students enrolling in these subjects need to have a National Police Check and consent or prohibited employment declarations as they may be conducting their placement in circumstances where they work with minors:

Program Structure

Qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 240 credit points as per the recommended sequence.

This comprises:

  • 160 credit points of specified core subjects and
  • 80 credit points of LLB alternate subjects.

Students who meet admission requirements may choose to transfer to the 2828 Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (Honours) program. Advice should be sought from the Academic Course Advisor.

Students may exit with the 2827 Diploma in Laws on completion of 80 credit points, comprising 20 credit points of specified Law core subjects and 60 credit points of Law core or alternate subjects, as provided in the program structure.
