This major introduces students to the fundamental concepts of finance theory – the time value of money, risk and return, capital budgeting and capital structure – and to the tools of financial decision-making in the context of the Australian institutional environment. Students examine the investment, financing and dividend decisions of corporations and develop an understanding of the basic practices of financial management from the perspective of both large and small firms. It also introduces the concept of investment analysis in the context of property. It explores the unique features of income-producing property and examines the performance of these properties, their loans and their taxation through the application of a variety of investment techniques. Also covered are risk analysis techniques for income-producing properties and portfolios.
