Description This subject explores the history of Indonesian language, the significance of Indonesian both as national and state language, Indonesian language skills and academic writing. Students will discover the origins and progression of the Indonesian language and engage in discussions regarding the societal implications of Indonesian's status as a national and state language. This subject will equip students with the ability to create presentations, deliver speeches, communicate effectively with content creators, as well as hone their critical reading and listening skills. Moreover, the academic writing component will focus on refining essential skills such as selecting appropriate Indonesian vocabulary, constructing coherent and effective sentences, developing well-structured paragraphs, and mastering academic techniques such as paraphrasing, summarising, and synthesising information.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this subject, students will be able to: 

  1. Solve problems related to the history and development of the Indonesian language, as well as the use of Indonesian in society as a national language and state language.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in using the formal variety of Indonesian for speeches, scientific presentations and content creation.
  3. Respond critically to information contained in written texts (Indonesian language texts) and in oral speech (oral texts in Indonesian).
  4. Use Indonesian spelling and vocabulary, to create effective sentences in written texts.
  5. Develop paragraphs, paraphrase summarise and synthesise various references (Indonesian language texts) for scientific writing.
  6. Produce popular writing (popular articles or features) and scientific writing (articles or essays) in Indonesian.
