Description This subject allows students to advance the skills and knowledge they have developed in their studies in a professional environment. This subject will require students to undertake a substantial Industry engagement, in the form of a work placement. This subject is recommended for Design students who have completed the second year of their degree.

Restrictions

Students must have completed 120 credit points. 40 credit points should be from a DESN subject code.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Employ an independent approach to learning and your design practice.
  2. Develop professional standards of communication and conduct in relation to working with colleagues, supervisors, clients, and suppliers.
  3. Develop industry-standard methods of project management.
  4. Develop portfolio outcomes that are informed by industry engagement.

Subject Content

The subject is designed for students in their third year of study (or part time equivalent). In addition to the following points, prospective students must apply for entry to the subject coordinator.

Once enrolled, students will have an option to nominate or be assigned an industry engagement experience. Students will discuss their choice with the subject coordinator (phone or email will be acceptable) and negotiate their learning experience.

  • Complete the workplace agreement form
  • Acquit hours as per the agreement
  • Reflect on experience
  • Produce engagement outcome
