Description This subject considers the design and implementation of accounting information systems as a data model for resource allocation and management of an organisation. Students are involved in a range of activities to build the knowledge and skills in this growing area including identifying current trends in information management and the changing regulatory requirements. Students learn to use a range of tools for the presentation of data and conceptual models, and articulate the value of information, business intelligence, and information security.

Assumed Knowledge
Basic financial and management accounting fundamentals, including use of spreadsheets in accounting and the use of a computerised accounting package.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Analyse the design of accounting information systems, enterprise resource planning systems, and business processes.
- Identify organisational risk and internal control issues, cyber security issues and requirements for monitoring and auditing accounting information systems.
- Develop conceptual models of organisational relationships demonstrating knowledge of business processes and information flows in an organisation.
- Use a range of tools for data analysis, presentation and to implement the conceptual models of information systems
- Examine the potential impact of new and emerging technologies on accounting information systems
- Apply professional ethics, problem solving, and communication skills involved in working with accounting information systems
