This program provides students with the specialist knowledge and skills required to shape the future of the tourism, hospitality and event management sectors in Australia and internationally. Graduates will be equipped to deliver sustainability and innovation outcomes through working in a variety of managerial, operational, policy, planning and research roles. The program allows students to complete majors in a variety of themes, including: human resource management, innovation and entrepreneurship, management, marketing, and planning and place making. Students are provided pathways to employment through work placements, applied projects and opportunities to engage with high-profile industry and government partners.

Early Exits

Students may exit with a 1937 Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management (exit only) upon completion of at least 80 credit points as specified in the graduate diploma (exit only) program structure.

Students may exit with a 1938 Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management upon completion of at least 40 credit points as specified in the graduate certificate program structure.

Applicants must have successfully completed

  • a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline; OR
  • an advanced diploma, or equivalent, in tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, environmental management, or a related discipline AND five years full-time equivalent work experience at a managerial or professional level in roles related to tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage and/or the visitor economy.

120cp Master of Sustainable Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management (1.5 years full-time, or equivalent)

Applicants must have successfully completed

  • a bachelor degree, or higher, in tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, environmental management, or a related discipline; OR
  • a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline AND a minimum of two years full-time equivalent work experience in roles related to tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage and/or the visitor economy; OR
  • a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline AND a minimum of five years full-time equivalent general work experience; OR
  • an advanced diploma, or equivalent, in tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, environmental management, or a related discipline AND five years full-time equivalent work experience at a managerial or professional level in roles related to tourism, hospitality, event management, heritage and/or the visitor economy.

Applicants must have successfully completed

  • an honours degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or higher, in tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, environmental management, or a related discipline; OR
  • a bachelor degree in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline AND a minimum of two years full-time equivalent work experience in roles related to tourism, travel, hospitality, event management, heritage and/or visitor economy.

160 Credit Point Pathway

Successful completion of this pathway requires the completion of 100 credit points of core and focus subjects, and 60 credit points of elective subjects. Elective subjects can be used to complete a major. Recommendations for related majors are available below.

120 Credit Point Pathway

Successful completion of this pathway requires the completion of 80 credit points of core and focus subjects, and 40 credit points of elective subjects. Students can complete an additional elective subject if they do not wish to complete an industry placement. Elective subjects can be used to complete a major.
