Description This subject introduces students to research principles and research proposal development as relevant to evaluation and small projects within music therapy clinical practice in a wide range of settings. The subject engages students in reflective practice and critical thinking processes for effective music therapy practice. Multidisciplinary and interprofessional issues are addressed. Professional practice issues are taught and discussed including ethics, standards of practice, self-care, professional supervision, and the music therapy work workplace. The subject provides students with resources and experience with regard to professional presentation and writing skills. The subject is delivered within a lectorial format.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

1. Articulate and apply research methods and approaches
2. Design a research project around a selected aspect of music therapy
3. Apply reflective practice and critical thinking to research design.
4. Outline and apply knowledge about professional practice issues such as ethics, standards of practice, self-care, and professional supervision
5. Create professional presentations relating to music therapy experiences, practice and research
6. Engage interprofessionally with other staff
