The Health and Physical Education (HPE) Pathway to Teaching program brings together a comprehensive foundation of health sciences, understanding of physical activity, and skills in interacting with people. The course explores challenging areas of personal development, including youth health, sexuality, drugs, mental health, risk-taking behaviours, health promotion and research. Facilities include a gymnasium, dance and gym studio, sports fields, and undercover sport courts where learning to lead practical experiences are a strong feature of the program. Enrolment in this program involves direct pathway to a Master of Teaching degree, and then on to a teaching career. Teaching opportunities can be extended beyond HPE by studying subjects in other disciplines to gain a second teaching area. The degree also gives the advantage of early access to Education units through mandatory completion of an Education Studies – Secondary Teaching sub-major. These units of study are structured to gain the necessary learning areas to satisfy the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards discipline knowledge requirements for entry into teaching.

Accreditation
Graduates may be eligible to apply for accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority following the successful completion of a recognised teaching qualification such as the Master of Teaching (Secondary).
Work Integrated Learning
Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline. This program includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. International students currently completing an Australian Year 12 in or outside Australia, an International Baccalaureate in Australia or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level 3 must apply via UAC International.
All other International applicants must apply directly to the University via the International Office.
International students applying to the University through the International Office can find details of minimum English proficiency requirements and acceptable proof on their website.
Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.
Special Requirements
In order to enrol in First Year Spring units, all students must have:

2. Child Protection Certificate
These will be incorporated as part of the new first year subject Foundations of HPE
Program Structure
Qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 240 credit points which include the subjects listed in the recommended sequence.
Note: At least 60 credit points must be at Level 3 or above.
Note: For placement in schools, students must complete a Child Protection Policies and Procedures module and Working with Children Check.
Minors
In addition, all students must complete the mandatory minor in Education Studies - Secondary Teaching, Minor (0267).
