Description Managing Sustainable Places provides students with a fundamental understanding of current debates in tourism and sustainable place management. The complex relationships and interactions among the diverse stakeholders involved in managing sustainable places and tourism are explored. The subject encourages a systems approach, focusing on managing visitor experiences alongside destination attributes and community development. The subject assists students to analyse the role of tourism, events, and heritage in sustainable places through applying a wide range of case studies.

Learning Outcomes
- Appraise the scope and complex interactions in places with tourism development and management;
- Assess relationships between tourism and places in terms of the social, economic, and environmental vitality;
- Apply theories to critique destination marketing and the sustainability of places;
- Evaluate the contribution of tourism and management to healthy and sustainable places.

- Key concepts and theory in management, sustainability, tourism and places;
- Structure, roles and systems in places of tourism, events and heritage;
- Relationship analysis: social, cultural, economic, and environmental impacts at places and sustainability;
- Contemporary issues in tourism management and sustainability: recreation and leisure, healthy places, construction of places, the role of nature in tourism, virtual tourism, urban, rural, marine and other emerging types of tourism and the impact on the places;
- Destinations, visitor economy and sustainable places.
