Description The subject will focus on issues that impact on contemporary policing, and the future of policing. The subject will contextualise policing practice by introducing students to the historical, legal, political and social context of this practice. The subject will then consider contemporary issues for policing such as social inclusion and community engagement, working with cognitive disability, transnational crime and newly defined crimes due to technological advancements. The implications of these developments for policing organisations in the future will be considered.

Eligible students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership Program at NSW Police Management and Leadership Centre; or the Graduate Diploma of Executive Leadership (Policing and Emergency Services) at the Australian Institute of Police Management will receive Advanced standing for this subject.
