Description This subject introduces purchasing and materials management through a number of concepts, processes and methods across a number of industry sectors including manufacturing, service and public sector. It covers a range of topics including purchasing strategy, organisational structure and responsibilities, global supply management, supplier selection and evaluation, procurement process, price/cost analysis, purchasing contract arrangements and inventory management. Students will develop an appreciation of theoretical knowledge in purchasing and materials management and applications and systems currently adopted in organisations. The knowledge and skills developed through lectures, case analyses and hands-on exercises will prepare students to manage a range of purchasing and materials management functions in global organisations.
