In this introductory subject to policing, who the police are, what they do and the practice of policing will be described explained and analysed. The subject will consider the communities, groups and individuals the practice of policing exposes the police and other criminal justice agencies to. Students will consider and critically think about contemporary strategies and approaches applied to policing practice in the 21st Century. Students in this subject will also explore policing theory and apply it to practice. As this is an introductory subject, a focus on developing students' academic skills such as writing for university, reading and annotating will feature throughout the delivery of content.
