This program provides students with the specialist knowledge and skills required to shape the future of the tourism and heritage sectors in Australia and internationally. Graduates will be equipped to deliver sustainability and innovation outcomes through working in a variety of managerial, operational, policy, planning and research roles. The program allows students to complete specialisations from a variety of themes, including: human resource management, innovation and entrepreneurship, international development, management, marketing, and planning and place making. Students are provided pathways to employment through work placements, applied projects and opportunities to engage with high-profile industry and government partners.
Early Exits
Students may exit with a 1921 Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Tourism Futures (exit only) upon completion of at least 80 credit points as specified in the program structure.
Students may exit with a 1922 Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Tourism Futures (exit only) upon completion of at least 40 credit points as specified in the program structure.

Work Integrated Learning
Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline. This program includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

Master of Sustainable Tourism and Heritage - 2 Year Pathway (160 credit points)
Applicants must have successfully completed
- a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline, or
- an advanced diploma, or equivalent, in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline AND five years full-time equivalent work experience at a managerial or professional level in roles related to tourism, heritage and/or the visitor economy
Master of Sustainable Tourism and Heritage - 1.5 Year Pathway (120 credit points)
Applicants must have successfully completed
- a bachelor degree, or higher, in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline; or
- a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline and a minimum of two years full-time equivalent work experience in roles related to tourism, heritage and/or the visitor economy; or
- a bachelor degree, or higher, in any discipline AND a minimum of five years full-time equivalent general work experience; or
- an advanced diploma, or equivalent, in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline AND five years full-time equivalent work experience at a managerial or professional level in roles related to tourism, heritage and/or the visitor economy
Master of Sustainable Tourism and Heritage - 1 Year Pathway (80 credit points)
Applicants must have successfully completed
- an honours degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or higher, in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline; or
- a bachelor degree in tourism, heritage, geography, social science, cultural studies, humanities, business, hospitality, events, environmental management, or a related discipline and a minimum of two years full-time equivalent work experience in roles related to tourism and/or heritage
Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.

160 Credit Point Pathway
Successful completion of this pathway requires the completion of 100 credit points of core and focus subjects, and 60 credit points of elective subjects. Elective subjects can be used to complete a major or minor. Recommendations for related majors and minors are available below.
120 Credit Point Pathway
Successful completion of this pathway requires the completion of 80 credit points of core and focus subjects, and 40 credit points of elective subjects. Students can complete an additional elective subject if they do not wish to complete an industry placement. Elective subjects can be used to complete a major or minor. 80 Credit Point Pathway
Successful completion of this pathway requires the completion of 80 credit points of core and focus subjects (this includes 70 prescribed credit points of core subjects and a 10 credit point focus subject which may be ARCH 7006 Urban Planning Placement Project, a program pool subject or an elective subject).
