The Master of Professional Psychology is designed to develop competent professional psychologists.
The objective of the Master of Professional Psychology is to provide one year of full time training in the professional practice of psychology sufficient to prepare students for a final year of supervised internship to complete registration requirements.
This program provides key training in ethics, psychopathology and psychological assessment, and therapeutic interventions. These are tailored to a range of mental health care issues, experienced within diverse contexts and across the lifespan and other professional skills including comprehensive training in disability, for the achievement of 50% of the requirements towards full registration as a generalist psychologist. To achieve full registration after the completion of this one-year degree, students must undertake additional appropriately supervised placement hours which students themselves arrange in the following year.

Admission
Admission to the Master of Professional Psychology program is based on academic merit, two referee reports and performance at a selection interview to determine capability for practitioner competency. For domestic students, selection interviews are held between October and December each year; for international students these are held once the application has been received.
Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) by 31 October at the following link:http://www.uac.edu.au

Admission Criteria for Master of Professional Psychology
Places will be offered to qualified applicants based on academic merit and interview performance according to the following admission criteria.
- Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four-year undergraduate Psychology degree within the last 10 years, with an indicative academic achievement, based on entry in previous years, of a grade point average of 5.0 or higher (counting Year 2 to 3 as 50% and Year 4 as 50%).
- Submission of two referees reports; and
- Participation in an interview, by invitation, with the School of Psychology.
No deferrals will be accepted for this program.

Additional Requirements for Domestic Applicants with International Qualifications
- International qualifications must be assessed by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and deemed equivalent to an Australian 4 year sequence in psychology (including an honours equivalent research thesis component);
- Applicants who have undertaken studies in other countries may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. Details of minimum English proficiency requirements and acceptable proof can be found on the international office website and include the additional admission requirements of:
IELTS (Academic) - 7.0 overall score with a minimum 7.0 in each subtest
TOEFL Internet based test - 100 (writing = 27 and all other subtests = 22)

International students applying to the University through the International Office need to have their applications submitted no later than 31 October of each year. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Positions for the Master of Professional Psychology program will be offered based on outcomes from academic criteria, English proficiency and the interview process, including consideration of referee reports and professional experience and capacity as for other applicants.
