This program applies to students who commenced in 2014 or later. 

This double degree is designed in recognition of the globalising nature of the information technology industry. In addition to providing a strong technical background in IT, the program also provides students with the necessary knowledge in an Arts major such as: International Relations and Asian Studies; Culture and Society; English; History and Political Thought; Philosophy; Chinese; Japanese, Arabic, Indonesian and Psychological Studies.

In the IT area, the program allows students to develop skills in program design, application development, systems analysis and design, computer networking, web development, data analysis, and the implementation of technology to solve real-world problems.

Students in this double degree also have the opportunity to complete a semester of study overseas and receive advanced standing towards their BA majors and minors subject to WSU limits on advanced standing. Students are encouraged to do so but must discuss this with a BA program advisor first.

The Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology is currently accredited with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at Professional level.

Work Integrated Learning

Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline.  This program includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

Admission

Assumed knowledge required: HSC Mathematics and any two units of HSC English.

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas may be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) or directly through the Western Portal. Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. International students currently completing an Australian Year 12 in or outside Australia, an International Baccalaureate in Australia or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level 3 must apply via UAC International.

Program Structure

Students who complete this award will graduate with a Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology/Bachelor of Arts.

The conceptual design of this BICT/BA double degree is as follows

  • In Years 1 to 3 students will complete 160 credit points of Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology subjects as listed in the Program Sequence tab.
  • In Years 1 to 4 students will complete the four Level 1 Bachelor of Arts (BA) core subjects, an eight subject BA major and a four subject BA minor from the majors and minors in the BA as listed below. Students may need to travel between campuses to complete the Arts components of the program.
