Description Professional Experience is a final year 'capstone' project unit. This unit provides opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in software systems requirements definition, analysis, design and implementation, in a real-world setting. Students work in groups, guided by an academic supervisor or an industry mentor, in achieving the goals set by the client that provides the project. Suitable projects are sourced from external organisations or within Western Sydney University by way of giving the students professional experience in independent learning and reflective practice.

On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

Complete all tasks in the SDLC to produce a software product or a component of one, working independently and under constraints, in a group setting.
Produce a full set of professional level documents covering all phases of the SDLC.
Integrate skills and knowledge gained from previous units as required by your project.
Apply newly learned technologies to the completion of project activities.
Mitigate probable risks when planning, organising and controlling project activities.

Software system lifecycle including requirements for a software system, software solutions that satisfy requirements, and tools and techniques for the assurance of quality and compliance of the software system throughout its development life cycle
Project planning and management

Documentation requirements for communicating software systems requirements and design (technical documentation & document version control)
