This program applies to students who commenced in 2022 or later.
The Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education is designed for graduates with qualifications in a relevant field such as teaching or allied health. Candidates may be either currently working with individuals with additional needs or aspiring to move into this field.
The Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education equips graduates with the skills, knowledge and dispositions which will enable them to work effectively in the field by exposing them to theory and practice that will support the holistic development and inclusion of individuals with additional needs across the lifespan. Founded on authentic learning experiences and analysis of theory and the research literature, professionals are enabled to apply their studies to their current professional situation and/or interests.

Admission
Applicants for admission into the Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree, or higher, in teaching/education, rehabilitation therapies, human welfare studies and services, or behavioural science. An undergraduate degree in teaching includes the historical 2-3 year Diploma of Teaching/Education prior to 1987.
Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Use the links below to apply via UAC or Western Sydney University. Applications made directly to Western Sydney do not have an application fee.
Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. Local and International applicants who are applying through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) will find details of minimum English proficiency requirements and acceptable proof on the UAC website. Local applicants applying directly to the University should also use the information provided on the UAC website.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.
The course is not available to onshore international student visa holders.
Additional Information for Applicants:
International applicants who are non-student visa holders, and are in a permissible visa category, must apply directly to Western Sydney University via WSU International.
International students who did not complete their undergraduate degree in Australia must also meet English Language proficiency requirements and must provide evidence to satisfy the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) as in the following:
1. An Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Report Form (TRF) that shows:
- a score of at least 7.0 for Reading and Writing; and
- a score of at least 8.0 for Speaking and Listening.
The IELTS test scores must appear on a single IELTS TRF and be the result of a test undertaken during the 12-month period prior to submitting an application.

2. An applicant who has completed study assessed by AITSL as comparable to at least four years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) study, that results in a qualification/s comparable to the education level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher (must include a recognised initial teacher education qualification) undertaken in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States. International - Entry requirements
Special Requirements Prerequisites
Students must satisfactorily complete the Special Requirements listed below:
1. Students are required to complete the TWO components of the Working with Children Check (WWCC) process leading to
a) the issuance of a clearance number under the category of volunteer and
b) verification of the clearance number with the NSW Department of Education.
a) Students will need to:
i. Access the Commission for Children and Young People website and complete an online application form to generate an application number.
ii. Present an application number and identification to a Service NSW office who will issue a Working with Children Check number via mail or email.
iii. Submit the letter with a valid Working With Children Check number via Western Now portal where the document will be recorded against your academic record.
b) Students will need to:
i. Access the NSW Department of Education WWCC Verification webpage
ii. Carefully read the information about Identity Documents and obtain a copy of the relevant ID documents
iii. Complete the Practicum Students Declaration form
iv. Submit the Practicum Students Declaration form and copy of the relevant ID documents to wwcc@det.nsw.edu.au using your student email account. In the Subject of the email write your name and Pre-service Teacher WWCC verification. e.g. Mina Smith Primary Preservice Teacher WWCC verification. Once your WWCC verification is complete you will receive an email reply from the DoE Probity Unit confirming your WWCC number has been verified.
v. Submit this verification confirmation email via Western Now portal
vi. Both your WWCC number and date and WWCC verification will be trimmed and recorded on your student record as Special Requirements.
2. Students must complete the TWO components of the NSW Department of Education’s Child Protection Awareness Training (CPAT)
i. Access the NSW Department of Education’s MyPL website https://mypl.education.nsw.gov.au/
ii. Complete the online Child Protection Awareness Training
iii. Save certificate of completion
iv. Submit Certificate of completion via WesternNow portal
v. Complete the Annual Child Protection Awareness Training (CPAT)
vi. Save certificate of completion
vii. Submit certificate of completion via WesternNow portal
viii. Both certificates will be recorded on your student record as Special Requirements with the end date for the Annual CPAT which will need to be renewed and submitted on an annual basis.
Students who have not completed Child Protection Awareness Training will need to withdraw from the subject.
3. Students must complete the ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training and email their certificate to Anaphylaxis@westernsydney.edu.au
