Description This subject involves the close reading of literary texts to explore the role and function of literature in contemporary society and build transferable skills relevant to both academic study and a wide range of professional careers. It asks students to consider the purpose of literature as a means of understanding the ideas and lived experiences that shape the world around us. Through the exploration of primary texts from Australia and across the globe, students will develop strong communication and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to engage with diverse perspectives and cultures.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

1. Develop a personal and scholarly interpretation of literary texts.
2. Analyse and annotate a range of literary texts  to draw connections between them and synthesise complex ideas.
3.  Summarise and evaluate critical arguments and use them to support and enhance independent interpretations of literary texts.
4. Communicate and collaborate effectively with other peers in class.
5. Independently plan and deliver a critically informed research essay.
