This subject introduces nursing and midwifery students to the terminology and major introductory concepts related to normal structure and function of the human body and its relationship to performances of activities of living and healthy lifestyle practices.

- Define anatomy and physiology of the human body across the lifespan
- Identify appropriate terminology to biological concepts and mechanisms
- Describe the physiological healthy body systems and homeostasis
- Explain the impact of lifestyle practices that improve people’s health literacy with relevance to nursing and midwifery practice
- Analyse biological concepts of health conditions related to Australian National Health Priority areas
Subject Content
- To inform nursing and midwifery practice, the following body systems are reviewed
- Human genome basics
- The integument, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, reproductive and urinary systems
- For each system, the concepts addressed are
- Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology
- Levels of body system organisation
- Growth and development across the lifespan
- Homeostasis and health
- Relationship to activities of living and healthy lifestyle practices
- Relationship to National Health Priorities - Obesity
